Hello class,
Just a reminder that we have the open house tonight at 6:30. There is a meeting at 6:00 pm if parents have questions about the wireless writing program. Our SS and Math tests are also today so hopefully everybody studied for that. Remember to bring back all forms as soon as possible. Take care and have a great long weekend as there is no school tomorrow for students. We have ordered the chocolates and will be able to start selling as soon as they get here. Here is a copy of the note sent home:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
September 24, 2009
This letter is to provide more information about our plans to attend Camp Sagitawa at Moberly Lake. The dates booked for this activity are June 16, 17, and 18, 2010. The classes involved are:
- Mr. Read’s grade 5/6
- Mr. Peterson’s grade 6/7
- Mr. Longley’s grade 6/7
In order to make this possible, we are requesting the help of students and families in participating in our fundraiser by selling World’s Finest Chocolates. We need to raise approximately $4,000.00 per class and to pay for all expenses, food, lodging, transportation, and activities. If each student sells 4 cases of chocolates, they will have earned their portion of the trip.
We will have prizes for the top three sellers who go the “extra mile” and sell more than their share. Any extra money will go towards our graduation dance and other year-end activities. It is our hope that all students will attend camp and that all will participate in this fundraiser, however, if you do not want to do the fundraiser, the cost to attend camp will be $150.00.
Please email kpeterson@prn.bc.ca or visit the school and ask for Mr. Peterson if you have any questions or concerns about these plans. This will be the third year in a row we have done the camp and every year it has been a huge success. Working towards the goal of an anticipated activity has brought classes together as they learn the importance of planning, working, and then ultimately receiving the end reward.
Thank you,
Mr. Peterson, Mr. Read, Mr. Longley

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to another school year. We have a lot of exciting plans for the grade six and sevens at Duncan Cran Elementary. As you know, next fall grade sevens will be at Dr. Kearney in a new middle school model. We wanted to make the final year at Duncan Cran special for this year’s class. Here are a few things to look forward to:
Class Parties:
Each time the class as a whole reaches 2500 points we will have a party. They earn points by getting their agendas signed, doing classroom and school monitor jobs, math games, and other team related accomplishments. I have found that by putting students on a team, earning points, and reaching goals, that the classroom community is more fun and also more organized. We may occasionally have parties at the school in the evening (i.e. 6-9pm) play video games projected onto the big screen and/or watch a movie projected onto the wall of the gym.
Dances:
We typically hold dances several times during the school year and the older classes are responsible for planning, decorating, and music. Stay tuned for dances at Halloween, Valentines, and a year-end graduation dance.
Birthday Cakes:
Each month we celebrate birthdays by having a cake for those members of the class whose birthday falls in that month. So far we have celebrated Kerwin’s and my birthdays in the month of September. Mrs. Peterson makes the cakes and they are always very delicious!
Camp Sagitawa:
We will be going to camp again this year and Mr. Longley and Mr. Read’s classes will be joining us on that adventure. To raise money for the trip, all three classes will be involved in fundraisers. We plan to sell chocolate almonds. Please look for ways to support this effort by taking chocolates to work or by helping your child with door-to-door selling. I always recommend that they go with a friend or family member if they choose the door-to-door option. Stay tuned for further information on Camp Sagitawa booked for June 16-18, 2010.
Class Blog:
You can go to the blog site at http://karlpeterson.edublogs.org/ to see what major assignments are due and to get an update on what has been going on in the class. Dates and deadline reminders will be posted on the blog site for upcoming tests, reports, speeches, science fair projects etc. There is also a comment feature which links directly to my email address.
I plan to help coach sports teams again this year. I will likely do the girls A volleyball and basketball, as well as track and field for grades 3-7 boys and girls.
Feel free to email me with at any time to check in with how your child is doing. My address is kpeterson@prn.bc.ca and all comments posted on the blog will be automatically emailed to me as well.
I am looking forward to a great year and to helping your child achieve their fullest potential.
Sincerely,
Mr. K. Peterson
